Source. Public job postings on employers' own career sites, and on USAJOBS for federal health care jobs, read daily by the Inland Care Jobs crawler. Duplicate postings of one job are merged, closed jobs drop out and employers' corrections are applied, so these are the same listings inlandcarejobs.com shows that day.
Pay. The range an employer posts, as an hourly equivalent (yearly pay ÷ 2,080 hours). Postings with one figure or only a starting rate count as showing pay but aren't used for typical ranges, since a starting rate looks low beside a full range. Shift differentials, benefits and total-compensation estimates aren't included.
Typical ranges. The median of the minimums (typical start) and the median of the maximums (typical top), never a range's midpoint. Each needs 5 or more postings with a full range from 2 or more employers. The two sides are marked comparable only with 8 or more such postings from 3 or more employers on each side.
Sign-on bonuses. As the posting states them (“$10,000 sign-on bonus”, “$5,000 in bonuses”). A posting that mentions a bonus without an amount counts as offering one but doesn't set the largest amount.
Changes. Each day's postings are compared with the previous day's. A bonus is added or removed when a posting that stays open gains or loses one, and raised or lowered when its stated amount changes; a posted range is raised when its minimum or maximum goes up and neither goes down. Jobs that close aren't changes. Each change is dated the day it was found.
New postings and days open. A posting is new in the month its posting date falls in; when a posting shows no date, the day it first appeared on the board, except for jobs already open when we began reading that employer's site. Days open count from the earlier of the posting date and the day the job first appeared.
What the figures are not. Posted ranges, not what anyone is paid: where a new hire starts depends on experience and, at union employers, the step on the pay scale. A change from one month to the next can come from a different mix of openings as well as from employers changing their ranges.
Corrections. An employer can correct a listing or add pay its careers site doesn't show by writing to support@inlandcarejobs.com; corrections apply at the next daily update.
